With the rapid development of industry, Japan has seized phenolic plastics with many advantages, such as high mechanical strength, good heat resistance, electricity leakage resistance, arc resistance, flame retardance and good dimensional stability.

According to experts, Japanese SUMITOMOBAKELITE company has developed glass fiber reinforced high strength PM-5610 and high heat resistance PM-5620.

High oil resistant PM-5630 and other wear resistant products, PM-5610 bending strength 200MPa, bending modulus of elasticity 12.2Gpa, impact strength 5.2kJ/m2, tensile strength 80MPa, density 1.64, shrinkage 0.28, under load 200 temperature.

The company also developed an index of resistance to electric leakage (CTI), a new variety with a brand name of PM9246 larger than 250V.

Japanese scientist SEUNG-HWANLEE, using liquid lignin phenol and formaldehyde, made phenolic resin from basic catalyst, and measured various kinds of reaction parameters in detail.

Then 100 phenolic resins, 3~5 foaming agents (two isopropyl ether), 0.1 to 2 parts of surfactant (sorbitol polyoxyethylene fatty acid ester), 2~10 parts of curing agent (hydrochloric acid) were prepared, and their apparent density was 19 to 45kg/m3, compression strength (compression 10%) 160KPa, elastic mold 0.78 ~ 7.82Mpa, and had the characteristics of flame retardance, smoke density, good dimensional stability and high use temperature, and had been widely applied.

In other words, SUMITOMOBAKELITE company of Japan has invented a leading technology in the world, which makes the consumption rate of phenolic resin synthesized close to 100%, while the unreacted material is controlled below 1%. The new advanced catalytic technology is an innovation for phenolic resin industry, and is conducive to improving efficiency and environmental protection.

According to experts, the recycling of phenolic resin is a major issue. In the past, the products were used as filler, and the performance and processability of the final products were not affected.

Gotou Takeo, SUMITOMOBAKELITE of Japan, has also studied the technology of recovering phenol and cresol from chemical cracking technology, and activated carbon by burning technology. It has also opened up new uses as abrasives. The comprehensive utilization of heat energy has been successfully carried out. At the same time, the comprehensive utilization of phenolic resin has been carried out in an all-round way with the technology of super water decomposition, liquid phase decomposition and dissolution reaction.

Experts said that the output of phenolic resin in Japan has steadily improved, and they have been more effective in improving the technology content and adjusting the product mix.

Previously, Japan's SUMITOMOBAKELITE company merged with the oxydurez company of the United States. Japan's MATSUSHTTAELECTRICWORKS company built 2 wholly owned thermosetting resin plants in Shanghai, and will produce many phenolic resins and unsaturated polyester resins every year.
